Meet Jeff Wendling, owner of Wendling Motor Sales of Rochelle, Illinois. The Wendling name has a long automotive history in this small rural community located just south of Rockford and west of Dekalb-Sycamore. Jeff's grandfather, John Wendling, Sr., opened the Dixie service station in Rochelle in1932 at the corner of Il251 and Hwy 38 and then Wendling Motor Sales at the corner of Il 38 and Lincoln Hwy, becoming the original Oldsmobile dealer in Rochelle just after WWII. Jeff's father, John Wendling, Jr., started with Wendling Motors after college in 1952, acquring the first Rambler/American Motors franchise and building the facility currently housing Wendling Motor Sales on North 251. He sold the franchises in 1969, but wisely kept and leased the property and building.

After graduating Rochelle High in1970, Jeff left for college earning a degree in Economics and Business Administration by 1974, then left Illinois to "see the world", traveling, living and working from coast to coast and in Europe, learning his trade in dealerships in Texas, Maine, Washington state and Florida. He met his wife of 28 years in Kansas, and they lived in Florida for 10 years where Jeff specialized in Corvette restorations and sales. When Brenda was 8 months along expecting the their first child, the couple moved back "home" to Rochelle (after Jeff had been away for 21 years!) to raise their family and start their business in his father's previous facility which was vacant and available.

"I still get a kick out of telling people I started out washing cars right here, and now I own the place!" laughs Wendling. Now in their 20th year, Jeff and Brenda agree it was the best possible move they could have made.

Wendling Motors is still family owned and operated with Brenda as office manager and their son, John, bringing his enthusiasm to over seeing the detail department and assisting with sales.

Realizing the importance of service, Wendling also has a busy independant repair shop at his location.

"There no short cuts or fast bucks in this business if your goals are long term," says Wendling. "A successful business is built on trust, honesty, integrity, service and quality vehicles."
